Brigadier General Lim Teck Yin assumed the appointment of Commandant SAFTI Military Institute on 14 August 2009.  He concurrently holds the appointment of Commander, Army Training and Doctrine Command (6 August 2008 to 28 August 2009) and Director, National Service Affairs.

BG Lim enlisted in the Army in 1980 and his key appointments in the SAF include the following: Commander, 6th Division (2007-2008), Commandant,  Singapore Command and Staff College (2003-2007), Chief of Staff (Operations), 2 PDF Command (2002-2003), Commander, 4th Singapore Armoured Brigade (2000-2002), Senior Doctrine Officer, HQ TRADOC (1999-2000), Commander, 56th Singapore Armoured Brigade (1997-1998) and Commanding Officer, 46th Battalion, Singapore Armoured Regiment (1995-1996).  His junior command assignments were served in the Combat Tracker Wing (HQ 3rd Division), 2nd Battalion, Singapore Guards and 1st Commando Battalion.  His staff assignments include junior staff officer appointments in JOD-JOPD and JCID-JID, as well as Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Force (1996-1998).

BG Lim attended the German General Staff Course at the Fuehrungsakademie of the Bundeswehr in 1993 and the SAF Senior Commanders' Course in 2005.  He holds a Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Organizational Development from the Singapore Civil Service College, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Science (Management) from the London Business School, University of London (UK).

In recognition of his dedication and professional conduct, BG Lim was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) (Military) and SAF Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (25 Years).

BG Lim and his wife, Jane, have four children – Kristian, Christopher, Rachel and Ethan.
