Curriculum

Requirements
Students enrolled under the MDTS programme are required to complete a programme of study comprising:
M.Sc.(DTS) degree programme
M.Sc.(relevant field of specialisation) degree programme

Master of Science (Defence Technology and Systems)
This programme aims to provide students with a broad range of knowledge pertaining to systems engineering and introduction to key defence technologies. Here, the learning emphasis is on systems thinking. The curriculum comprises 9 coursework modules to be conducted at the National University of Singapore (NUS) within the first 2 quarters of the programme. The students then proceed to NPS where they will embark on the "Integration Project" over the subsequent 2 quarters.
A brief description of the Integration Project and coursework modules under the M.Sc.(DTS) curriculum is shown in Annex A.

Master of Science (relevant field of specialisation)
This programme aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of a specialised field in defence technology. Students are required to choose one of the specialization tracks available which leads to the award of the degree in the relevant field of specialisation. The curriculum of the specialisation track is separate and independent of the curriculum for the M.Sc.(DTS). Typically, it consists of 10 coursework modules and a research thesis. Conduct of the coursework modules and work on the research thesis are done over 4 quarters, i.e. from Q3 to Q6.
Presently, there are 11 approved specialisation tracks. Of these, 10 tracks are conducted entirely at NPS from Quarter 3 to Quarter 6. The 11th track, which is the Land Systems specialisation, is conducted firstly at NPS during Q3 and Q4, and subsequently at NUS during Q5 and Q6.
Although there are 11 approved specialisation tracks, not all of them are available each year. Up to 4 or 5 specialisation tracks may be offered each year, subject to the minimum number of students required in the respective specialisation track and the availability of lecturers. Annex B describes the required coursework modules for the various specialization tracks.
